The RGS has a list of potential organisations that you can apply to for grants, to assist you with your costs for joining our expedition. To visit the page please click here.
There are other grant making organisations that you can contact which are relevant to your local area such as the Roundtable and small businesses. Your university may also be able to help with funding if they have a university or college travel fund, which you can apply to for a grant. Contact your university careers adviser for help. You can also check the Grant Directory, which your local library should have a copy of, this contain organisations whose grant criteria you may fit into.
Fundraising is a good way to help you raise money for your trip with us. You can carry out fund raising activities both at university and at home. Just remember the more people that help you the easier the planning and running the day is, not to mention a lot more fun.
There are lots of things that you can do to fundraise;
- You can organise a theme party - see if your student union or local bar will let you use the venue for free, then charge a small entrance fee.
- Car Washing
- Bag Packing at your local Supermarket
- Charity Fun runs or even a marathon!
- Run a raffle getting local business to donate the prize*
- Wear fancy dress for the day ALL DAY.
- Face painting at local events.
- Jumble sales
One of the main things that you have to is make sure as many people as possible know about your events and what you are doing, this can include contacting a local newspaper, getting a shout out on your local or university radio station. Even start up a webpage showing everyone the fundraising activities you been doing, how they have benefited the people who took part and the fun you have had doing them.
Although we are a small organisation we will try and help with these as far as possible. Contact us if you need the OuTrop logo or any other information to help you along.
* When running a raffle where you are selling tickets on the street make sure to check with your local council that you don't need a license, if you do they normally only cost a nominal amount of money.
